The Occupational English Test (OET) is a language proficiency exam specifically developed for healthcare professionals. It certifies their linguistic competence with emphasis on the language used in healthcare settings. OET results are acknowledged in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Namibia, and Singapore. They can be used for professional practice and visa or immigration purposes.

The OET exam focuses on the four communicative skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Test takers must complete the exam in approximately three hours.

The test contents showcase real workplace scenarios in the medical field. In the listening exam, test takers are tasked to listen to a consultation between a medical professional and a patient and take down notes. In the reading exam, test takers are tasked to read healthcare interest articles. In the writing exam, test takers must compose a referral, follow-up, or discharge letter based on the case notes provided. And, in the speaking exam, test takers must interact with the OET interlocutor based on a given healthcare situation.

To become OET-ready, exam takers must be adept in communicating in English in social and medical contexts. Enrolling in an Occupational English Test Philippines training center is one of best ways to prepare for the high-stakes exam. We can help you build up your confidence, hone your communicative abilities, and teach you language skills that are essential in the healthcare industry.

Test takers can get an OET grade of A to E, with A being the highest and E the lowest. Each section is evaluated with specific criteria. Test takers can access an overview of their results online in the OET website 16 business days after their exam date. The official copy of their scores, the Statement of Results, will be mailed ten business days after the day their results were published online. OET Results are valid for two years.

Take note that OET score requirements vary depending on the healthcare industry. For instance, the score requirement of Occupational English Test (OET) for nurses is a B band for all four sections. Check your relevant board or council OET result requirements to know your score goal.
